Your help will be needed on Saturday as we prepare the sanctuary for Easter Sunday. We will work on setting up the sanctuary: in memoriam or in honor of flowers can be brought at this time (or dropped off in Fellowship Hall either of the nights before). With your help our worship space will glow on this special morning when we welcome the Risen Christ!
This is a brief worship service held in the stripped, darkened sanctuary. Through word and song we will hear from those who were present during Jesus’ last hours. We will sing hymns that reflect the mood of those last hours. Worship will end with a time for private reflection on our sins, laying our burdens at the cross and a final hymn.
This will be a simple candlelight meal (vegetable soup and bread) eaten in silence in Fellowship Hall during which you will listen to several readings. The meal will end with a silent sharing of the Lord’s Supper around the table. Following this we will enter the Sanctuary for a final reading and the stripping of the Sanctuary. This is done to remind us of the utter loss of those things which Jesus brought and which He loved: joy, light, comfort, beauty and hope. We try to put ourselves back in time with his disciples who lived through the events of Thursday evening and Friday, in order to better feel what they felt. We end the evening with the singing of an unaccompanied hymns. RSVP helps meal planning and setup.
